Last night, the Chicago Blackhawks faced-off against the Seattle Kraken to kickstart their two game road trip.
Expectations were at an all-time high after last Sunday's 2-1 overtime victory against the Minnesota Wild, but the team failed to show up offensively -- losing by a score of 3-1
To add insult to injury, Chicago Blackhawks superstar Connor Bedard suffered a nasty cross-check at the hands of Adam Larsson. After the hit, not one Blackhawk stood up for Bedard, letting Larsson walk away unscathed.
Not only is the team failing to generate any sustained offensive firepower, the Blackhawks also look completely dejected-- getting pushed around physically and letting their star player be bullied on the ice.
Watching Connor Bedard get hit from behind without any retaliation last night was completely shocking. Although the Blackhawks first line isn't necessarily stacked with enforcers, they still have heavy-weights like Pat Maroon who can answer the bell when called on.
Although the team would get a well deserved penalty after Larsson's dirty cross-check, the Chicago Blackhawks didn't score on the ensuing power-play, emphasizing the critical state of the Blackhawks abysmal offence.
It's no secret that physicality can directly lead to more offence. Pat Maroon should have used his next shift to send a message, perhaps by dropping the gloves, it might have given the spark the team needed to get back into the game.
As it stands, the Blackhawks are showing zero effort, and zero fight.
The team will look to bounce-back Saturday when they take on the Vancouver Canucks.
