The Edmonton Oilers took on the Toronto Maple Leafs last night on Hockey Night in Canada, and Ryan Reaves is currently being scrutinized for a dirty head shot on Darnell Nurse.

Every time the Edmonton Oilers take on Toronto Maple Leafs, there always seems to be an added flair of drama.

The game was an entertaining one from start to finish, but an unfortunate scenario unfolded concerning Edmonton Oilers defenceman Darnell Nurse.

Midway through the 2nd period, Darnell Nurse was retrieving the puck in what appeared to be a routine play, but Toronto Maple Leafs enforcer came charging around the corner, deliberately clipping Darnell Nurse in the face.

The chilling scene quieted the arena as Darnell Nurse laid motionless on the ice, leaking blood, requiring immediate medical attention from the Oilers medical staff.

For a brief moment, it looked like Darnell Nurse was knocked unconscious as blood was profusely leaking from his head.

Ryan Reaves has been a fringe player in the Toronto Maple Leafs lineup all season and his inability to play within the rules could lead him to be a consistent scratch once he serves his likely suspension.

According to an update, Darnell Nurse did suffer a significant upper-body injury that will prevent him from returning to tonight's game.

Ryan Reaves has always been a polarizing figure in the NHL. Although he's known for being a great enforcer, this play is definitely questionable.

Hopefully Darnell Nurse makes a speedy recovery. I think it's safe to say that Ryan Reaves will be getting a call from the department of players safety at some point today.
