The Edmonton Oilers pulled the trigger on the former Chicago Blackhawks general manager over the offseason after a three year absence from the game.
The hire was initially deemed highly controversial, but the Edmonton Oilers seemed confident in their decision based off Bowman's former Stanley Cup success.
With that being said, fans in Oilers Nation are now calling for Bowman's head, demanding his dismissal from his new executive role. These demands are now intensifying due to the team's abysmal start, currently sitting at a 6-7-1 record.
The Oilers, have been named Stanley Cup favourites after making it all the way to game 7 of the finals last season. Although they have Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl at the helm, the Oilers have been severely underperforming under Bowman's new regime.
The height of Bowman's scrutiny came after his handling of the St. Louis Blues offer sheet situation.
During the NHL offseason, the St. Louis Blues snatched two of the Oilers best prospects (Philip Broberg and Dylan Holloway) via offer sheets. GM Bowman opted out on matching the Blues offer, letting them go for future draft pick considerations.
Combining the Oilers lacklustre performance and his poor handling of the offer sheets, fans are now calling for a swift change in executive management.
