It's no secret by now that back in 2022, Alex DeBrincat was traded to the Ottawa Senators in exhachange first round pick (7th overall), its 2022 second-round pick (39th overall), and a 2024 third-round pick.
At the time, the trade sparked quite the buzz in Bean Town. The Blackhawks former 40+ goal scorer made it clear he wasn't interested in signing with the club longterm, emphasizing his desires to be part of a Stanley Cup contending team.
Although the transaction left Blackhawks fans somewhat bitter, DeBrincat only spent one season in Canada before being dished out to the Detroit Red Wings.
This trade became increasingly significant for Hawks enthusiasts as DeBrincat was reunited with former franchise legend Patrick Kane.
Last night was an important matchup for the Hawks to say the least. With Kaner' and Cat back in town, a chance arose to show fans that trading away their two snipers was the right decision for the organization - but that was not the case.
Alex DeBrincat would score the 1st goal on the night after the Detroit Red Wings power-play with momentum in their favor.
At 12:42 in the 2nd period, he would latter tally an assist on Dylan Larkins nifty goal, putting the Detroit Red Wings up 2-1.
In dramatic fashion, DeBrincat notched 2 points in a statement performance. Although it's somewhat nice to see the former Blackhawks ace find success, one can't help but wonder what the team would look like had Kyle Davidson found a way to keep him around - even if that meant a short term deal.
