Breaking news in Hawks Nation as Seth Jones has been ruled out of tonight's game due to a foot injury.

The Chicago Blackhawks are gearing up for one their biggest games of the season against the Vancouver Canucks tonight, and they'll have to make due without one their best blue-liners.

"He's going to be put on IR this afternoon with a foot, I think his right foot, but we won't really know anymore on that until we get home and get more in-depth evaluation."

Jones blocked a shot in Thursday's loss to the Seattle Kraken. There's no timeline on when he might return, but players put on IR must miss a minimum of seven days from the date of the injury.

Jones has logged 10 points in 17 games this season and is averaging a league-leading 25:43 per contest. The 30-year-old is in his fourth season with the Blackhawks after being acquired from the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Blackhawks defenceman Seth Jones is earning a monstrous $9.5M salary for the next 6 seasons. Now 29 years old, Jones hasn't been able to live up to the value of his contract since joining the team, and frequently gets picked apart in the defensive zone.

But this year, Jones has managed to evolve his game, displaying strong leadership and sound defensive play.

This is a massive blow to an organization struggling to gain any traction on their season. The Blackhawks have been plagued with inconsistencies, but Seth Jones has been a steady presence on the back-end all season.

Seth Jones has now been placed on IR as the team awaits an official timeline for his return from injury.
